We didn´t plan to go, but then space and capacity freed up, so on Saturday morning we
booked the flight and hotel, flew out on Monday, and had our first meeting in Tokyo on
Wednesday to be able to start full steam ahead from Thursday to Sunday.
And it was definitely worth it!
Our guy was in Tokyo for the first time (achievement unlocked after 25 years in the gaming
business), but it didn´t show. He managed to run around like a young deer.
This year, we didn´t have our own booth under the Czech Developers Association, so
scheduling meetings was a bit more challenging, but we can all agree that Worlds Kitchen is
a great place for coffee and meetings. (Until lunch, then avoid it!)
Snack can be sorted out in a shop or bistro. Tuna Mayo Onigiri is a quick snack, and we
couldn´t get enough of it!
After so many years in industry, we can compare the show to E3 and Gamescom, but even
though there are naturally more JRPGs, hypervisual beat´em ups, and lots of titles with main
heroines that you probably legally shouldn’t be having sex with… TGS is not biggest, but
certainly most crazy.
Gamescom is bigger not only in terms of audience (TGS had 274,739 this year, GC had
almost 100,000 more), but also in terms of halls.
There are a total of 11 halls, but although We didn´t measure it with a caliper, it seems to us that local hall is the same size as at GC, but here it accommodates 3 sectors.
So basically, it’s just “only” 4 halls… Gamescom still has 11.
Nevertheless, if you’re into games – come here too!!! The ticket cost 3000 yen for a day
(public Saturday or Sunday), it´s like 20 Euros! In general: The yen is so low that you feel like a rich man here, which doesn’t happen often to guys from Central Europe.
Of course after event like these, many people ask us: What was the best game you played
there???
Guys, you know better than We do. There is no time for playing games when you are going
under flag of Cyber Sail Consulting!
(Titan Quest 2 was close, on Sunday there were only 20 people in front of us, but each had
30 minutes, so we have to pass!)
The main quest was to meet local publishers, of course, but we are scouting for interestant
titels as well. Hopefully we will be able to tell more soon!
And trends?
Certainly PC rulez!
There was surprisingly less place for mobile games.
Much more safe bets from biggest players (remakes, series installments).
One last tip – bring additional luggage, one part of Hall 11 is just for merchandise shop and
you will be crazy!
Sayonara, see you next time!
